Making the call

Is The GE-30AT Right For You?

The honest version. We would rather talk you out of the wrong piano than deliver it and hear about it later.

Choose the GE-30AT if

  • You have a dedicated music room or a generous living area
  • You want a piano that will not need replacing as the player improves
  • The player is advanced enough that the instrument is now the limit

Look at something else if

  • The room is under about 20 square metres, where it will overwhelm the space
  • Access involves a staircase with tight turns
Sound and size

What The GE-30AT Sounds Like

Balanced rather than spectacular. For a room in a house that is exactly right.

Among the lightest we list, in a range that runs from 272 kg to 510 kg.

Kawai voicing runs warmer than Yamaha at the same size, particularly up top. People who practise for hours tend to prefer it. Neither is better. Play both, which you can do on one floor at the shop.

Room and access

Will it get in?

  • Space: about 2.1 m across
  • Floor: roughly 3.9 m² with room to sit and pass
  • Case width 150 cm, height 102 cm
  • Access: Lift, moved in parts

285 kg, and it travels in pieces. Legs and lyre come off, the body goes on its side on a padded skid.

Buying it used

What You Are Actually Buying

Every Kawai we sell has been through a full restoration in Japan and a second rebuild in Selangor. The second one matters most, because by then the piano has been through a humidity change we can actually see the effects of.

Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it.

Silent system

You Can Practise This One At Midnight

The GE-30AT is an acoustic piano with Kawai's silent system fitted. A lever stops the hammers before they reach the strings, sensors read the keys, and it comes out through headphones. The action underneath is unchanged, so practice still transfers to a normal piano.

Buying one used, the thing to check is the electronics rather than the piano. We test the system before anything goes on the floor. If it has died, we say so and price it as the acoustic piano it still is.

Questions

Kawai GE-30AT: What People Ask

How big is the Kawai GE-30AT?

164 cm long, 150 cm wide, 102 cm tall, and about 285 kg. On a grand the length is the number that matters, because it sets the bass string length and the floor space you need.

Will a GE-30AT fit my place?

You need about 2.1 m across and roughly 3.9 m² with room to sit and pass. 285 kg, and it travels in pieces. Legs and lyre come off, the body goes on its side on a padded skid. Send the room size, the floor and whether there is a service lift, and we will tell you before you travel.

Is a used GE-30AT a safe buy?

Every Kawai we sell has been through a full restoration in Japan and a second rebuild in Selangor. The second one matters most, because by then the piano has been through a humidity change we can actually see the effects of. It carries a five-year warranty on parts and labour, honoured by the workshop that did the work.

Can I rent a GE-30AT instead?

Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a GE-30AT specifically. Ask what is free now. Rent for six months, buy it, and those six months come off the price.

Do you have a GE-30AT in stock?

Ask, because it changes week to week. No stock today does not mean no stock next month. We watch for specific models.

How often does a GE-30AT need tuning in Malaysia?

Twice a year. Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it. The first two tunings are on us, once it has settled in.
