Making the call

Is The KG-2C Right For You?

Both sides of it. If the right-hand column sounds like your situation, say so and we will point you elsewhere.

Choose the KG-2C if

  • You want a piano that will not need replacing as the player improves
  • You have a dedicated music room or a generous living area
  • The player is advanced enough that the instrument is now the limit

Look at something else if

  • The room is under about 20 square metres, where it will overwhelm the space
  • Access involves a staircase with tight turns
Sound and size

What The KG-2C Sounds Like

Balanced rather than spectacular. For a room in a house that is exactly right. Same case as the Kawai KG-2, 16 kg heavier.

Among the lightest we list, in a range that runs from 272 kg to 510 kg.

Kawai voicing runs warmer than Yamaha at the same size, particularly up top. People who practise for hours tend to prefer it. Which you prefer is genuinely personal, and twenty minutes at the shop settles it faster than any description.

Room and access

Will it get in?

  • Space: about 2.1 m across
  • Floor: roughly 4.1 m² with room to sit and pass
  • Case width 152 cm, height 102 cm
  • Access: Lift, planned move

310 kg, moved in parts and reassembled in the room, then levelled and tuned once it is standing.

Buying it used

What You Are Actually Buying

The risk with any used piano is buying somebody else's problem: polished case, fine for a month, then it will not hold a tuning. Ours are rebuilt twice before you see them, once in Japan and again in our own workshop here, and the second pass happens after the instrument has crossed the equator and shown us how it reacts to this climate.

Humidity decides how a piano ages here. These were built for a climate with a winter, and in Malaysia the soundboard takes up moisture and gives it back, week after week. That movement pulls a piano out of tune, not playing it.

Kawai's long-running grand line. The number tracks length: a KG-1 is 164 cm, a KG-8 is a 276 cm concert instrument.

Questions

Kawai KG-2C: What People Ask

How big is the Kawai KG-2C?

178 cm long, 152 cm wide, 102 cm tall, and about 310 kg. On a grand the length is the number that matters, because it sets the bass string length and the floor space you need.

Will a KG-2C fit my place?

You need about 2.1 m across and roughly 4.1 m² with room to sit and pass. 310 kg, moved in parts and reassembled in the room, then levelled and tuned once it is standing. Message us the room and the floor. It takes a minute and saves a wasted trip.

Is a used KG-2C a safe buy?

The risk with any used piano is buying somebody else's problem: polished case, fine for a month, then it will not hold a tuning. Ours are rebuilt twice before you see them, once in Japan and again in our own workshop here, and the second pass happens after the instrument has crossed the equator and shown us how it reacts to this climate. Five years of parts and labour cover comes with it, from the same people who rebuilt it.

Can I rent a KG-2C instead?

Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a KG-2C specifically. Ask what is free now. The rent turns into credit the moment you decide to buy it.

Do you have a KG-2C in stock?

Ask, because it changes week to week. When we are out, we say so rather than steer you into whatever is on the floor.

How often does a KG-2C need tuning in Malaysia?

Twice a year. Humidity decides how a piano ages here. These were built for a climate with a winter, and in Malaysia the soundboard takes up moisture and gives it back, week after week. That movement pulls a piano out of tune, not playing it. Two tunings after delivery are included when you buy from us.
