Making the call

Is The KST-2 Right For You?

Worth reading the right-hand column properly. Most of the pianos that come back are access problems, not taste problems.

Choose the KST-2 if

  • You want something that resells easily if plans change
  • The room is normal rather than generous
  • A teacher said a real acoustic, and did not specify a size

Look at something else if

  • A teacher has specifically asked for a full-height instrument
  • The room is large and hard-surfaced, where a taller piano would carry better
Sound and size

What The KST-2 Sounds Like

Middle register is where these live, and it is good. The lowest octave is adequate rather than a selling point.

Set against the Kawai No. K35, the most commonly sold used Kawai here, it is 17 cm shorter and 20 kg lighter. Middling for weight in a range that spans 160 kg to 270 kg.

Kawai voicing runs warmer than Yamaha at the same size, particularly up top. People who practise for hours tend to prefer it. There is no right answer here. Both are on the floor, so try them back to back.

Room and access

Will it get in?

  • Space: about 1.5 m of wall
  • Floor: roughly 1.0 m²
  • Case width 149 cm, depth 61 cm
  • Access: Lift preferred

200 kg is normal for this size. Access matters more than the number does.

Kawai built several at 115 cm tall: the KST-3, KST-5. They differ in weight and case rather than in size. If the KST-2 is not on the floor when you ask, the table below is where we would send you next.

What You Are Actually Buying

We do not guess about individual instruments. Ask what was replaced on the KST-2 you are looking at and we will tell you, serial number included.

Keep it off an outside wall if you can, out of the sun, and away from the air conditioning. Those three things do more damage here than a child practising ever will.

Our rent-to-own programme

Rent First. The Rent Becomes Credit.

Renting first is the low-risk way in. Nothing you pay is wasted, because it counts toward buying the piano later.

Questions

Kawai KST-2: What People Ask

How big is the Kawai KST-2?

115 cm tall, 149 cm wide, 61 cm deep, and about 200 kg. Height sets the tone, weight sets what delivery day looks like.

Will a KST-2 fit my place?

You need about 1.5 m of wall and roughly 1.0 m². 200 kg is normal for this size. Access matters more than the number does. Tell us the building and we will tell you whether this one can get in.

Is a used KST-2 a safe buy?

We do not guess about individual instruments. Ask what was replaced on the KST-2 you are looking at and we will tell you, serial number included. If something goes wrong in the first five years, it is our workshop that fixes it.

Can I rent a KST-2 instead?

Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a KST-2 specifically. Ask what is free now. Buy the one you have been renting and the rent already paid comes off the price.

Do you have a KST-2 in stock?

Ask, because it changes week to week. If nothing suits, we will tell you that too.

How often does a KST-2 need tuning in Malaysia?

Twice a year. Keep it off an outside wall if you can, out of the sun, and away from the air conditioning. Those three things do more damage here than a child practising ever will. Two free tunings in the first fortnight come with the piano.
