Kawai stock is thinner than Yamaha, so the list moves. If the model you want is not standing on the floor when you ask, tell us anyway and we will watch for it rather than talk you into something that does not suit you.

Still an upright

The Kawai Upright Grands

Worth clearing up, because the name confuses people every week. An upright grand is not a grand piano. It is an upright with a different back construction, and it stands against a wall like any other upright. If you want a true grand with a horizontal action, that is a different instrument.

All 62 Kawai Upright Models, With Sizes

The model name alone tells you very little. Each page below gives the height, the weight and the case dimensions of that model, plus an honest read on whether it suits your room. We do not hold all of these at once, so use them to work out what you want, then ask us what is on the floor.

K series

The first generation of Kawai uprights, and the line the later series grew out of. Many left the factory with two pedals and have had a third fitted during restoration.

BL series

The line that succeeded the original K series and the most successful run in Kawai's history. BL numbers climb with height.

BS series

A shallow-cased run from the same period as the BL line. The reduced depth is the point when a hallway is tight.

KU series

Kawai's long-running domestic line for the Japanese market, which is why so many reach Malaysia. B and D suffixes mark later revisions, not different sizes.

KS-F series

A later domestic line with the F suffix. Heights step in tight increments, so there is usually one that matches an awkward wall.

KST series

Compact console-height instruments at 115 cm, built for smaller Japanese rooms and a natural fit for an apartment here.

NS series

A domestic line sitting between the BL and US runs. Sensible heights and conventional cases.

US series

Kawai's professional line, and the heaviest uprights they built for homes and institutions. Long strings and weights that need planning.

CL series

Slim-cased uprights with a shallower depth than the rest of the range.

CX series

Low console models at 112 cm, several in wood grain rather than polished ebony.

M series

A full-height professional case in the same class as the US line.

OP series

A domestic model in the common 125 cm class, conventional in case and action.

Silent hybrids

Acoustic pianos fitted with Kawai's silent system, so the action can be muted and played through headphones.

Not sure which height fits your room?

Tell us the room, which floor it is going to, whether there is a service lift and who is playing. Four answers usually take the list down to two or three.

Ask Our Team
Looking at a grand instead?

Grands need floor area rather than wall space, and the stock changes. Ask us what is available before you plan the room.

Kawai Upright Pianos: Common Questions

Which Kawai upright suits a small apartment?

The BL-31 or the K20, both around 125 cm and 200 kg. They fit a normal living room wall, they are the lightest we handle, and they will go up a staircase with a competent crew when a 260 kg instrument will not.

Is the Kawai K48 worth the extra weight?

If the room and the route can take it, yes. At 132 cm and 260 kg it has the longest strings of any upright we stock and the bass shows it. If there is any doubt about access, say so before you fall for the sound.

Do Kawai uprights use plastic action parts?

Some Kawai actions use composite components, and they are not a weakness. They are more stable in humidity than timber, which in this climate is an advantage rather than a compromise. Our workshop replaces whatever is worn either way.

Can you source a specific Kawai model?

Often, but not instantly. Tell us the model and roughly what you want to spend and we will watch for it. Kawai comes out of Japan in smaller numbers than Yamaha, so it can take longer.
