113 cm tall, which puts it in the smallest class of real piano rather than the smallest class of furniture. It is the shortest Silent hybrids we list.
Give us the floor and the lift situation and we will be straight with you about whether this one suits.
Kawai
In the price, not added at the end.
Both sides of it. If the right-hand column sounds like your situation, say so and we will point you elsewhere.
Short strings, so the tone is direct rather than deep. In a small tiled room that is usually an advantage, because a big piano in a hard little room mostly gives you echo. Against the Kawai AT-22 it is 9 cm shorter and 62 kg lighter.
Set against the Kawai No. K35, the most commonly sold used Kawai here, it is 19 cm shorter and 60 kg lighter. Among the lightest we list, in a range that runs from 160 kg to 270 kg.
Kawai voicing runs warmer than Yamaha at the same size, particularly up top. People who practise for hours tend to prefer it. Neither is better. Play both, which you can do on one floor at the shop.
160 kg. Stairs are a conversation rather than a problem. At 54 cm front to back it is one of the shallower cases in the range, which is worth knowing if the hallway it has to pass through is narrow.
Nothing else we list from Kawai is exactly 113 cm tall, so it sits on its own in the range. If the HAT-7 is not on the floor when you ask, the table below is where we would send you next.
| Model | Height | Weight | Width |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kawai HAT-7 This model | 113 cm | 160 kg | 150 cm |
| Kawai CX-5 | 112 cm | 200 kg | 150 cm |
| Kawai CX-5H | 112 cm | 200 kg | 150 cm |
| Kawai KST-2 | 115 cm | 200 kg | 149 cm |
The risk with any used piano is buying somebody else's problem: polished case, fine for a month, then it will not hold a tuning. Ours are rebuilt twice before you see them, once in Japan and again in our own workshop here, and the second pass happens after the instrument has crossed the equator and shown us how it reacts to this climate.
Humidity decides how a piano ages here. These were built for a climate with a winter, and in Malaysia the soundboard takes up moisture and gives it back, week after week. That movement pulls a piano out of tune, not playing it.
If you are not ready to commit, rent one by the month. Decide to keep it and the rent you have paid comes off the purchase price.
The HAT-7 is an acoustic piano with Kawai's silent system fitted. A lever stops the hammers before they reach the strings, sensors read the keys, and it comes out through headphones. The action underneath is unchanged, so practice still transfers to a normal piano.
Buying one used, the thing to check is the electronics rather than the piano. We test the system before anything goes on the floor. If it has died, we say so and price it as the acoustic piano it still is.
Acoustic pianos fitted with Kawai's silent system, so the action can be muted and played through headphones.
113 cm tall, 150 cm wide, 54 cm deep, and about 160 kg. Height sets the tone, weight sets what delivery day looks like.
You need about 1.5 m of wall and roughly 1.0 m². 160 kg. Stairs are a conversation rather than a problem. Give us the measurements and the access and we will be straight about whether it works.
Five years of parts and labour cover comes with it, from the same people who rebuilt it.
Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a HAT-7 specifically. Ask what is free now. The rent turns into credit the moment you decide to buy it.
Ask, because it changes week to week. When we are out, we say so rather than steer you into whatever is on the floor.
Twice a year. Humidity decides how a piano ages here. These were built for a climate with a winter, and in Malaysia the soundboard takes up moisture and gives it back, week after week. That movement pulls a piano out of tune, not playing it. Two tunings after delivery are included when you buy from us.
Ask what is actually in the shop today. We will send photos of the specific piano, tell you what was replaced in the rebuild, and be honest if another model fits you better.
