Making the call

Is The M1A Right For You?

Both sides of it. If the right-hand column sounds like your situation, say so and we will point you elsewhere.

Choose the M1A if

  • Your room is small, or the piano shares a wall with a neighbour
  • Ceiling height or a window sill rules out anything taller
  • The piano has to live in a space that also does something else

Look at something else if

  • You are working towards higher grades and need more bass
  • You want an instrument that will still satisfy an advanced player in five years
Sound and size

What The M1A Sounds Like

The bottom octave is honest rather than impressive. Everything from the middle upward does what it should.

Set against the Yamaha U1H, the most commonly sold used Yamaha here, it is 13 cm shorter and 37 kg lighter. Among the lightest we list, in a range that runs from 180 kg to 254 kg.

Yamaha is the brighter and quicker of the two, which is why exam candidates keep asking for one. Some players find the treble tiring over long sessions. It is a preference, not a ranking. Come and sit at both.

Room and access

Will it get in?

  • Space: about 1.5 m of wall
  • Floor: roughly 1.0 m²
  • Case width 147 cm, depth 56 cm
  • Access: Lift or stairs

At 180 kg this is one of the easier pianos to get into an awkward place. At 56 cm front to back it is one of the shallower cases in the range, which is worth knowing if the hallway it has to pass through is narrow.

What You Are Actually Buying

A used piano is only as good as the work done to it. Strings and dampers replaced where needed, hammers reshaped or renewed, the action regulated until repetition is even, pedal linkages set, case refinished. Then it is tuned and left to settle.

Humidity decides how a piano ages here. These were built for a climate with a winter, and in Malaysia the soundboard takes up moisture and gives it back, week after week. That movement pulls a piano out of tune, not playing it.

Questions

Yamaha M1A: What People Ask

How big is the Yamaha M1A?

108 cm tall, 147 cm wide, 56 cm deep, and about 180 kg. Height sets the tone, weight sets what delivery day looks like.

Will a M1A fit my place?

You need about 1.5 m of wall and roughly 1.0 m². At 180 kg this is one of the easier pianos to get into an awkward place. Give us the measurements and the access and we will be straight about whether it works.

Is a used M1A a safe buy?

A used piano is only as good as the work done to it. Strings and dampers replaced where needed, hammers reshaped or renewed, the action regulated until repetition is even, pedal linkages set, case refinished. Then it is tuned and left to settle. Five years of parts and labour cover comes with it, from the same people who rebuilt it.

Can I rent a M1A instead?

Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a M1A specifically. Ask what is free now. The rent turns into credit the moment you decide to buy it.

Do you have a M1A in stock?

Ask, because it changes week to week. No stock today does not mean no stock next month. We watch for specific models.

How often does a M1A need tuning in Malaysia?

Twice a year. Humidity decides how a piano ages here. These were built for a climate with a winter, and in Malaysia the soundboard takes up moisture and gives it back, week after week. That movement pulls a piano out of tune, not playing it. Two tunings after delivery are included when you buy from us.
