Yamaha pianos

Yamaha Piano For Sale Malaysia Restored used Yamaha uprights and grands, rebuilt before they reach the floor.

Yamaha is the piano most Malaysian households end up with, and for good reason. They were built in volume to a consistent standard, the action is quick and even, and any technician in the country knows how to service one. Every Yamaha we sell is a Japanese instrument, restored there and rebuilt again in our own workshop.

Upright Or Grand, Both Restored

Start with the shape of the instrument, because that decides the room before it decides the tone. Almost every home we deliver to takes an upright. A grand needs floor area rather than wall space, and that is the first question to settle.

The Yamaha Lines, And What They Mean

Yamaha names its uprights by height and generation. The number tells you the size: U1 is 121 cm, U2 is 127 cm, U3 is 131 cm. The letter after it marks the generation, running roughly A through M across the decades. The UX line is a separate thing again, an upright with an X-braced back that gives it more power than its height suggests. What none of the letters tell you is how the piano was kept, which is why we quote against the instrument in front of us rather than the badge.

Find Your Yamaha By Model Number

Fifty eight Yamaha models, each with its own page. The number is the size and the letter is the generation, so a U1F and a U1H are the same 121 cm piano built twenty years apart. Pick a type below or search the number.

The U, UX, YU and W lines plus the compacts, from a 101 cm LU-101 to the 131 cm professional cases. The number is the height and the letter is the generation. Open the Yamaha uprights page.

U1 line

Yamaha's 121 cm upright and the most widely owned serious piano in the country. The letter marks the generation, not the size.

U2 line

127 cm, six centimetres taller than a U1, and the difference lands in the bass rather than the touch.

UX line

X-braced backs and heavier build than the U line at the same height. More power than the dimensions suggest, and still an upright.

YU line

A later domestic series replacing the U numbering. YUS and YUA sit at the top of the range.

W series

Wood grain cabinets rather than polished ebony, built for rooms where a black case would dominate.

Compact models

Yamaha's smaller cabinets, from 101 cm to 113 cm. Built for tight rooms and the lightest acoustic pianos Yamaha made.

From the 149 cm A1R through the G and C lines to the 275 cm CF. Grands arrive in ones and twos rather than standing on the floor. Open the Yamaha grands page.

A series

Yamaha's shortest grand at 149 cm, made for rooms that cannot take a full baby grand.

G series

Yamaha's long-running grand line before the C series. Many are two-pedal domestic instruments.

C series

Yamaha's conservatory line and the grands you meet in music schools and recital rooms.

CF concert

Yamaha's full concert instrument at 275 cm. A stage piano, not a living-room one.

Numbered series

Yamaha's earliest grand numbering, before the G and C lines replaced it. Two-pedal instruments built for the domestic Japanese market.

Buying A Used Yamaha Piano: Common Questions

Which Yamaha piano is best for a beginner?

A U1 in most homes. At 121 cm and around 217 kg it is the smallest of the serious Yamaha uprights, it fits a condo or a normal living room, and it holds its value better than anything else we sell. A child will not outgrow it before the exams start mattering.

What is the difference between a Yamaha U1, U2 and U3?

Height, and therefore bass. The U1 is 121 cm, the U2 is 127 cm and the U3 is 131 cm. Taller means longer strings and a bigger soundboard, so the low end has more body. It also means more weight to move: 217 kg for a U1H against 248 kg for a U3H.

What do the letters after the model number mean?

They mark the generation, running roughly A through M over the decades. A U1H and a U1D are the same 121 cm cabinet from different years, with detail changes to the action and the case. Age matters less than how the piano was kept and what was replaced in the rebuild.

Are used Yamaha pianos a safe buy?

A rebuilt Japanese Yamaha is about as safe as a used instrument gets, and ours carry a five-year warranty on parts and labour. They were built in volume to a consistent standard, so parts are available and any technician in the country knows the action.
