Making the call

Is The KG-6C Right For You?

Worth reading the right-hand column properly. Most of the pianos that come back are access problems, not taste problems.

Choose the KG-6C if

  • You are equipping a stage, a hall or a recording room
  • You need an instrument that carries over an orchestra
  • The space and the budget are both institutional rather than domestic

Look at something else if

  • It is going into a house, in which case almost anything else is a better buy
  • You do not have the ceiling height and floor area a hall provides
Sound and size

What The KG-6C Sounds Like

Designed to be heard over an orchestra at the back of a hall. In a domestic room it produces more sound than the space can absorb. Against the Kawai KG-7D it is 2 cm shorter and 90 kg lighter.

Middling for weight in a range that spans 272 kg to 510 kg.

Kawai voicing runs warmer than Yamaha at the same size, particularly up top. People who practise for hours tend to prefer it. It is a preference, not a ranking. Come and sit at both.

Room and access

Will it get in?

  • Space: about 2.1 m across
  • Floor: roughly 4.8 m² with room to sit and pass
  • Case width 155 cm, height 102 cm
  • Access: Lift, planned move

330 kg, moved in parts and reassembled in the room, then levelled and tuned once it is standing.

Buying it used

What You Are Actually Buying

A used piano is only as good as the work done to it. Strings and dampers replaced where needed, hammers reshaped or renewed, the action regulated until repetition is even, pedal linkages set, case refinished. Then it is tuned and left to settle.

Keep it off an outside wall if you can, out of the sun, and away from the air conditioning. Those three things do more damage here than a child practising ever will.

Questions

Kawai KG-6C: What People Ask

How big is the Kawai KG-6C?

222 cm long, 155 cm wide, 102 cm tall, and about 330 kg. On a grand the length is the number that matters, because it sets the bass string length and the floor space you need.

Will a KG-6C fit my place?

You need about 2.1 m across and roughly 4.8 m² with room to sit and pass. 330 kg, moved in parts and reassembled in the room, then levelled and tuned once it is standing. Message us the room and the floor. It takes a minute and saves a wasted trip.

Is a used KG-6C a safe buy?

A used piano is only as good as the work done to it. Strings and dampers replaced where needed, hammers reshaped or renewed, the action regulated until repetition is even, pedal linkages set, case refinished. Then it is tuned and left to settle. If something goes wrong in the first five years, it is our workshop that fixes it.

Can I rent a KG-6C instead?

Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a KG-6C specifically. Ask what is free now. Buy the one you have been renting and the rent already paid comes off the price.

Do you have a KG-6C in stock?

Ask, because it changes week to week. If nothing suits, we will tell you that too.

How often does a KG-6C need tuning in Malaysia?

Twice a year. Keep it off an outside wall if you can, out of the sun, and away from the air conditioning. Those three things do more damage here than a child practising ever will. Two free tunings in the first fortnight come with the piano.

Sunwave Piano, since 1979
