Making the call

Is The KG-7D Right For You?

The honest version. We would rather talk you out of the wrong piano than deliver it and hear about it later.

Choose the KG-7D if

  • You are equipping a stage, a hall or a recording room
  • The space and the budget are both institutional rather than domestic
  • You need an instrument that carries over an orchestra

Look at something else if

  • It is going into a house, in which case almost anything else is a better buy
  • You do not have the ceiling height and floor area a hall provides
Sound and size

What The KG-7D Sounds Like

Designed to be heard over an orchestra at the back of a hall. In a domestic room it produces more sound than the space can absorb. Against the Kawai KG-6C it is 2 cm taller and 90 kg heavier.

Middling for weight in a range that spans 272 kg to 510 kg.

Kawai voicing runs warmer than Yamaha at the same size, particularly up top. People who practise for hours tend to prefer it. It is a preference, not a ranking. Come and sit at both.

Room and access

Will it get in?

  • Space: about 2.1 m across
  • Floor: roughly 4.8 m² with room to sit and pass
  • Case width 154 cm, height 102 cm
  • Access: Wide access needed

420 kg is heavy enough that the building decides whether this is possible.

What You Are Actually Buying

We do not guess about individual instruments. Ask what was replaced on the KG-7D you are looking at and we will tell you, serial number included.

Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it.

Questions

Kawai KG-7D: What People Ask

How big is the Kawai KG-7D?

224 cm long, 154 cm wide, 102 cm tall, and about 420 kg. On a grand the length is the number that matters, because it sets the bass string length and the floor space you need.

Will a KG-7D fit my place?

You need about 2.1 m across and roughly 4.8 m² with room to sit and pass. 420 kg is heavy enough that the building decides whether this is possible. Send the room size, the floor and whether there is a service lift, and we will tell you before you travel.

Is a used KG-7D a safe buy?

We do not guess about individual instruments. Ask what was replaced on the KG-7D you are looking at and we will tell you, serial number included. It carries a five-year warranty on parts and labour, honoured by the workshop that did the work.

Can I rent a KG-7D instead?

Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a KG-7D specifically. Ask what is free now. Rent for six months, buy it, and those six months come off the price.

Do you have a KG-7D in stock?

Ask, because it changes week to week. No stock today does not mean no stock next month. We watch for specific models.

How often does a KG-7D need tuning in Malaysia?

Twice a year. Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it. The first two tunings are on us, once it has settled in.
