Making the call

Is The KS-2A Right For You?

The honest version. We would rather talk you out of the wrong piano than deliver it and hear about it later.

Choose the KS-2A if

  • You want this to be the last piano you buy for a while
  • More than one person in the house plays seriously
  • You want more bass without stepping into professional-weight territory

Look at something else if

  • Your ceiling or wall space is genuinely tight
  • There is no service lift and the staircase has awkward turns
Sound and size

What The KS-2A Sounds Like

This is where the left hand starts getting proper support. Above middle C the difference is smaller than the height suggests.

Set against the Kawai No. K35, the most commonly sold used Kawai here, it is 7 cm shorter. Middling for weight in a range that spans 160 kg to 270 kg.

Kawai voicing runs warmer than Yamaha at the same size, particularly up top. People who practise for hours tend to prefer it. Neither is better. Play both, which you can do on one floor at the shop.

Room and access

Will it get in?

  • Space: about 1.6 m of wall
  • Floor: roughly 1.0 m²
  • Case width 152 cm, depth 61 cm
  • Access: Lift preferred

At 220 kg it is an ordinary move. Lift, fine. Stairs, tell us how many and which way they turn.

What You Are Actually Buying

Every Kawai we sell has been through a full restoration in Japan and a second rebuild in Selangor. The second one matters most, because by then the piano has been through a humidity change we can actually see the effects of.

Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it.

A later domestic line with the F suffix. Heights step in tight increments, so there is usually one that matches an awkward wall.

Questions

Kawai KS-2A: What People Ask

How big is the Kawai KS-2A?

125 cm tall, 152 cm wide, 61 cm deep, and about 220 kg. Height sets the tone, weight sets what delivery day looks like.

Will a KS-2A fit my place?

You need about 1.6 m of wall and roughly 1.0 m². At 220 kg it is an ordinary move. Lift, fine. Stairs, tell us how many and which way they turn. Message us the room and the floor. It takes a minute and saves a wasted trip.

Is a used KS-2A a safe buy?

Every Kawai we sell has been through a full restoration in Japan and a second rebuild in Selangor. The second one matters most, because by then the piano has been through a humidity change we can actually see the effects of. It carries a five-year warranty on parts and labour, honoured by the workshop that did the work.

Can I rent a KS-2A instead?

Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a KS-2A specifically. Ask what is free now. Rent for six months, buy it, and those six months come off the price.

Do you have a KS-2A in stock?

Ask, because it changes week to week. If we do not have one, we will say so and tell you what is close on size and weight.

How often does a KS-2A need tuning in Malaysia?

Twice a year. Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it. The first two tunings are on us, once it has settled in.
