Making the call

Is The KS-5F Right For You?

The honest version. We would rather talk you out of the wrong piano than deliver it and hear about it later.

Choose the KS-5F if

  • The player is preparing for practical exams or teaches at home
  • You have the floor space and the access to take a large upright
  • The bass on a smaller piano has started to sound thin to you

Look at something else if

  • There is no service lift and the piano has to go upstairs
  • The room is small, where a big instrument mostly produces reverberation
  • Nobody in the house plays beyond early grades yet
Sound and size

What The KS-5F Sounds Like

Full-length bass strings and the biggest soundboard in the range. It fills a room without being forced, which is what teachers listen for. Against the Kawai KS-3F it is 5 cm taller and 15 kg heavier.

Set against the Kawai No. K35, the most commonly sold used Kawai here, it is 30 kg heavier. Near the top of the weight range, which runs from 160 kg up to 270 kg.

Kawai voicing runs warmer than Yamaha at the same size, particularly up top. People who practise for hours tend to prefer it. Which you prefer is genuinely personal, and twenty minutes at the shop settles it faster than any description.

Room and access

Will it get in?

  • Space: about 1.6 m of wall
  • Floor: roughly 1.1 m²
  • Case width 152 cm, depth 61 cm
  • Access: Service lift

250 kg is getting heavy. In a lift it is routine, up a staircase it becomes a planned job.

What You Are Actually Buying

We do not guess about individual instruments. Ask what was replaced on the KS-5F you are looking at and we will tell you, serial number included.

Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it.

Where The KS-5F Sits In The Range

A later domestic line with the F suffix. Heights step in tight increments, so there is usually one that matches an awkward wall.

Questions

Kawai KS-5F: What People Ask

How big is the Kawai KS-5F?

132 cm tall, 152 cm wide, 61 cm deep, and about 250 kg. Height sets the tone, weight sets what delivery day looks like.

Will a KS-5F fit my place?

You need about 1.6 m of wall and roughly 1.1 m². 250 kg is getting heavy. In a lift it is routine, up a staircase it becomes a planned job. Message us the room and the floor. It takes a minute and saves a wasted trip.

Is a used KS-5F a safe buy?

We do not guess about individual instruments. Ask what was replaced on the KS-5F you are looking at and we will tell you, serial number included. It carries a five-year warranty on parts and labour, honoured by the workshop that did the work.

Can I rent a KS-5F instead?

Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a KS-5F specifically. Ask what is free now. Rent for six months, buy it, and those six months come off the price.

Do you have a KS-5F in stock?

Ask, because it changes week to week. No stock today does not mean no stock next month. We watch for specific models.

How often does a KS-5F need tuning in Malaysia?

Twice a year. Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it. The first two tunings are on us, once it has settled in.
