Making the call

Is The KU-2D Right For You?

Worth reading the right-hand column properly. Most of the pianos that come back are access problems, not taste problems.

Choose the KU-2D if

  • You want more bass without stepping into professional-weight territory
  • Grades are coming and the player has outgrown a small instrument
  • You have a landed house or a ground-floor unit with space to spare

Look at something else if

  • Your ceiling or wall space is genuinely tight
  • There is no service lift and the staircase has awkward turns
Sound and size

What The KU-2D Sounds Like

The extra centimetres go into the bass strings, and you hear it below middle C. Chords have something underneath them.

Set against the Kawai No. K35, the most commonly sold used Kawai here, it is 7 cm shorter. Middling for weight in a range that spans 160 kg to 270 kg.

The B and D suffixes across the KU line mark revisions rather than sizes. Judge a KU-2D on how it was kept, not on the letter.

Kawai voicing runs warmer than Yamaha at the same size, particularly up top. People who practise for hours tend to prefer it. It is a preference, not a ranking. Come and sit at both.

Room and access

Will it get in?

  • Space: about 1.6 m of wall
  • Floor: roughly 1.0 m²
  • Case width 152 cm, depth 61 cm

220 kg goes into a service lift without drama. A short flight of stairs is workable if we walk it first.

What You Are Actually Buying

We do not guess about individual instruments. Ask what was replaced on the KU-2D you are looking at and we will tell you, serial number included.

Keep it off an outside wall if you can, out of the sun, and away from the air conditioning. Those three things do more damage here than a child practising ever will.

Our rent-to-own programme

Rent First. The Rent Becomes Credit.

For families not yet sure the lessons will stick. Rent a restored piano monthly, and if you keep it, everything paid comes off the price.

Where The KU-2D Sits In The Range

Kawai's long-running domestic line for the Japanese market, which is why so many reach Malaysia. B and D suffixes mark later revisions, not different sizes.

Questions

Kawai KU-2D: What People Ask

How big is the Kawai KU-2D?

125 cm tall, 152 cm wide, 61 cm deep, and about 220 kg. Height sets the tone, weight sets what delivery day looks like.

Will a KU-2D fit my place?

You need about 1.6 m of wall and roughly 1.0 m². 220 kg goes into a service lift without drama. A short flight of stairs is workable if we walk it first. Give us the measurements and the access and we will be straight about whether it works.

Is a used KU-2D a safe buy?

We do not guess about individual instruments. Ask what was replaced on the KU-2D you are looking at and we will tell you, serial number included. If something goes wrong in the first five years, it is our workshop that fixes it.

Can I rent a KU-2D instead?

Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a KU-2D specifically. Ask what is free now. Buy the one you have been renting and the rent already paid comes off the price.

Do you have a KU-2D in stock?

Ask, because it changes week to week. When we are out, we say so rather than steer you into whatever is on the floor.

How often does a KU-2D need tuning in Malaysia?

Twice a year. Keep it off an outside wall if you can, out of the sun, and away from the air conditioning. Those three things do more damage here than a child practising ever will. Two free tunings in the first fortnight come with the piano.
