Making the call

Is The NS-15M Right For You?

The honest version. We would rather talk you out of the wrong piano than deliver it and hear about it later.

Choose the NS-15M if

  • Grades are coming and the player has outgrown a small instrument
  • You want this to be the last piano you buy for a while
  • More than one person in the house plays seriously

Look at something else if

  • Your ceiling or wall space is genuinely tight
  • There is no service lift and the staircase has awkward turns
Sound and size

What The NS-15M Sounds Like

This is where the left hand starts getting proper support. Above middle C the difference is smaller than the height suggests. Against the Kawai NS-10 it is 1 cm taller and 5 kg heavier.

Set against the Kawai No. K35, the most commonly sold used Kawai here, it is 7 cm shorter. Middling for weight in a range that spans 160 kg to 270 kg.

Kawai voicing runs warmer than Yamaha at the same size, particularly up top. People who practise for hours tend to prefer it. It is a preference, not a ranking. Come and sit at both.

Room and access

Will it get in?

  • Space: about 1.6 m of wall
  • Floor: roughly 1.0 m²
  • Case width 153 cm, depth 61 cm

220 kg goes into a service lift without drama. A short flight of stairs is workable if we walk it first.

What You Are Actually Buying

A used piano is only as good as the work done to it. Strings and dampers replaced where needed, hammers reshaped or renewed, the action regulated until repetition is even, pedal linkages set, case refinished. Then it is tuned and left to settle.

Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it.

Questions

Kawai NS-15M: What People Ask

How big is the Kawai NS-15M?

125 cm tall, 153 cm wide, 61 cm deep, and about 220 kg. Height sets the tone, weight sets what delivery day looks like.

Will a NS-15M fit my place?

You need about 1.6 m of wall and roughly 1.0 m². 220 kg goes into a service lift without drama. A short flight of stairs is workable if we walk it first. Tell us the building and we will tell you whether this one can get in.

Is a used NS-15M a safe buy?

A used piano is only as good as the work done to it. Strings and dampers replaced where needed, hammers reshaped or renewed, the action regulated until repetition is even, pedal linkages set, case refinished. Then it is tuned and left to settle. It carries a five-year warranty on parts and labour, honoured by the workshop that did the work.

Can I rent a NS-15M instead?

Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a NS-15M specifically. Ask what is free now. Rent for six months, buy it, and those six months come off the price.

Do you have a NS-15M in stock?

Ask, because it changes week to week. No stock today does not mean no stock next month. We watch for specific models.

How often does a NS-15M need tuning in Malaysia?

Twice a year. Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it. The first two tunings are on us, once it has settled in.

Sunwave Piano, since 1979
