Making the call

Is The W102 Right For You?

Worth reading the right-hand column properly. Most of the pianos that come back are access problems, not taste problems.

Choose the W102 if

  • The player is preparing for practical exams or teaches at home
  • There is a service lift, so the weight is not the problem
  • The bass on a smaller piano has started to sound thin to you

Look at something else if

  • There is no service lift and the piano has to go upstairs
  • The room is small, where a big instrument mostly produces reverberation
  • Nobody in the house plays beyond early grades yet
Sound and size

What The W102 Sounds Like

This is as close as an upright gets to a grand in the bass. It also needs a room that can take that much sound. Same case as the Yamaha W105, 2 kg heavier.

Set against the Yamaha U1H, the most commonly sold used Yamaha here, it is 10 cm taller and 33 kg heavier. Near the top of the weight range, which runs from 180 kg up to 254 kg.

Yamaha is the brighter and quicker of the two, which is why exam candidates keep asking for one. Some players find the treble tiring over long sessions. It is a preference, not a ranking. Come and sit at both.

Room and access

Will it get in?

  • Space: about 1.6 m of wall
  • Floor: roughly 1.1 m²
  • Case width 153 cm, depth 65 cm
  • Access: Service lift

250 kg is getting heavy. In a lift it is routine, up a staircase it becomes a planned job. The case is 65 cm deep, which is more than most. Measure the doorway rather than assuming it will turn.

What You Are Actually Buying

We do not guess about individual instruments. Ask what was replaced on the W102 you are looking at and we will tell you, serial number included.

Keep it off an outside wall if you can, out of the sun, and away from the air conditioning. Those three things do more damage here than a child practising ever will.

Rent First. The Rent Becomes Credit.

Renting first is the low-risk way in. Nothing you pay is wasted, because it counts toward buying the piano later.

Questions

Yamaha W102: What People Ask

How big is the Yamaha W102?

131 cm tall, 153 cm wide, 65 cm deep, and about 250 kg. Height sets the tone, weight sets what delivery day looks like.

Will a W102 fit my place?

You need about 1.6 m of wall and roughly 1.1 m². 250 kg is getting heavy. In a lift it is routine, up a staircase it becomes a planned job. Message us the room and the floor. It takes a minute and saves a wasted trip.

Is a used W102 a safe buy?

We do not guess about individual instruments. Ask what was replaced on the W102 you are looking at and we will tell you, serial number included. If something goes wrong in the first five years, it is our workshop that fixes it.

Can I rent a W102 instead?

Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a W102 specifically. Ask what is free now. Buy the one you have been renting and the rent already paid comes off the price.

Do you have a W102 in stock?

Ask, because it changes week to week. If we do not have one, we will say so and tell you what is close on size and weight.

How often does a W102 need tuning in Malaysia?

Twice a year. Keep it off an outside wall if you can, out of the sun, and away from the air conditioning. Those three things do more damage here than a child practising ever will. Two free tunings in the first fortnight come with the piano.
