A 131 cm U3 at 248 kg, one generation before the widely sold H. Identical scale, identical case, and usually a friendlier price for the same playing experience.
Photos of the actual piano on request. Tell us your room and floor and we will say if it fits.
Yamaha
In the price, not added at the end.
The same instrument as the H for most practical purposes.
Full height bass with the Yamaha clarity on top. The difference between this and a U1 is not subtle: chords have something underneath them and the instrument fills a room without effort.
Sits directly before the H in the run. For most buyers the two are interchangeable, which makes the G worth asking about specifically.
Yamaha is the brighter and quicker of the two, which is why exam candidates keep asking for one. Some players find the treble tiring over long sessions. There is no right answer here. Both are on the floor, so try them back to back.
248 kg. Lift is fine, stairs need planning. The case is 65 cm deep, which is more than most. Measure the doorway rather than assuming it will turn.
Yamaha built several at 131 cm tall: the U3A, U3D, U3E, U3F and 15 others. They differ in weight and case rather than in size. If the U3G is not on the floor when you ask, the table below is where we would send you next.
| Model | Height | Weight | Width |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yamaha U3G This model | 131 cm | 248 kg | 154 cm |
| Yamaha U3A | 131 cm | 248 kg | 154 cm |
| Yamaha U3D | 131 cm | 248 kg | 154 cm |
| Yamaha U3E | 131 cm | 248 kg | 154 cm |
Check the action regulation carefully. On heavily used full height uprights the repetition is the first thing to go, and it is also the most fixable.
Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it.
If you are not ready to commit, rent one by the month. Decide to keep it and the rent you have paid comes off the purchase price.
Yamaha's 131 cm upright. What teachers ask for, and what most exam candidates practise on at home.
131 cm tall, 154 cm wide, 65 cm deep, and about 248 kg. Height sets the tone, weight sets what delivery day looks like.
You need about 1.6 m of wall and roughly 1.1 m². 248 kg. Lift is fine, stairs need planning. Send the room size, the floor and whether there is a service lift, and we will tell you before you travel.
Check the action regulation carefully. On heavily used full height uprights the repetition is the first thing to go, and it is also the most fixable. It carries a five-year warranty on parts and labour, honoured by the workshop that did the work.
Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a U3G specifically. Ask what is free now. Rent for six months, buy it, and those six months come off the price.
Ask, because it changes week to week. No stock today does not mean no stock next month. We watch for specific models.
Twice a year. Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it. The first two tunings are on us, once it has settled in.
Ask what is actually in the shop today. We will send photos of the specific piano, tell you what was replaced in the rebuild, and be honest if another model fits you better.
