The YUX is a full-height instrument. Long bass strings, big soundboard, and a moving job to match. Nothing else in the YU line is bigger.
Give us the floor and the lift situation and we will be straight with you about whether this one suits.
Yamaha
In the price, not added at the end.
The honest version. We would rather talk you out of the wrong piano than deliver it and hear about it later.
This is as close as an upright gets to a grand in the bass. It also needs a room that can take that much sound. Same case as the Yamaha YUS3, 7 kg lighter.
Set against the Yamaha U1H, the most commonly sold used Yamaha here, it is 10 cm taller and 23 kg heavier. Near the top of the weight range, which runs from 180 kg up to 254 kg.
Yamaha is the brighter and quicker of the two, which is why exam candidates keep asking for one. Some players find the treble tiring over long sessions. It is a preference, not a ranking. Come and sit at both.
240 kg is getting heavy. In a lift it is routine, up a staircase it becomes a planned job. The case is 65 cm deep, which is more than most. Measure the doorway rather than assuming it will turn.
Yamaha built several at 131 cm tall: the U3A, U3D, U3E, U3F and 15 others. They differ in weight and case rather than in size. If the YUX is not on the floor when you ask, the table below is where we would send you next.
| Model | Height | Weight | Width |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yamaha YUX This model | 131 cm | 240 kg | 154 cm |
| Yamaha U3M | 131 cm | 240 kg | 154 cm |
| Yamaha U5D | 131 cm | 241 kg | 154 cm |
| Yamaha UX-3 | 131 cm | 242 kg | 154 cm |
Every Yamaha we sell has been through a full restoration in Japan and a second rebuild in Selangor. The second one matters most, because by then the piano has been through a humidity change we can actually see the effects of.
Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it.
If you are not ready to commit, rent one by the month. Decide to keep it and the rent you have paid comes off the purchase price.
A later domestic series replacing the U numbering. YUS and YUA sit at the top of the range.
131 cm tall, 154 cm wide, 65 cm deep, and about 240 kg. Height sets the tone, weight sets what delivery day looks like.
You need about 1.6 m of wall and roughly 1.1 m². 240 kg is getting heavy. In a lift it is routine, up a staircase it becomes a planned job. Tell us the building and we will tell you whether this one can get in.
Every Yamaha we sell has been through a full restoration in Japan and a second rebuild in Selangor. The second one matters most, because by then the piano has been through a humidity change we can actually see the effects of. It carries a five-year warranty on parts and labour, honoured by the workshop that did the work.
Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a YUX specifically. Ask what is free now. Rent for six months, buy it, and those six months come off the price.
Ask, because it changes week to week. When we are out, we say so rather than steer you into whatever is on the floor.
Twice a year. Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it. The first two tunings are on us, once it has settled in.
Ask what is actually in the shop today. We will send photos of the specific piano, tell you what was replaced in the rebuild, and be honest if another model fits you better.
