What The U5D Sounds Like

Full height bass with more body than the standard U3, helped by the deeper case. It is a substantial instrument in a way the dimensions only partly convey.

The U5 sits outside the main U1 to U3 progression. It comes up rarely, so if you want one specifically, expect to wait rather than choose.

Yamaha is the brighter and quicker of the two, which is why exam candidates keep asking for one. Some players find the treble tiring over long sessions. There is no right answer here. Both are on the floor, so try them back to back.
