Making the call

Is The US-50 Right For You?

Both sides of it. If the right-hand column sounds like your situation, say so and we will point you elsewhere.

Choose the US-50 if

  • The player is preparing for practical exams or teaches at home
  • There is a service lift, so the weight is not the problem
  • You have the floor space and the access to take a large upright

Look at something else if

  • There is no service lift and the piano has to go upstairs
  • The room is small, where a big instrument mostly produces reverberation
  • Nobody in the house plays beyond early grades yet
Sound and size

What The US-50 Sounds Like

Full-length bass strings and the biggest soundboard in the range. It fills a room without being forced, which is what teachers listen for.

Set against the Kawai No. K35, the most commonly sold used Kawai here, it is 40 kg heavier. Near the top of the weight range, which runs from 160 kg up to 270 kg.

Kawai voicing runs warmer than Yamaha at the same size, particularly up top. People who practise for hours tend to prefer it. It is a preference, not a ranking. Come and sit at both.

Room and access

Will it get in?

  • Space: about 1.6 m of wall
  • Floor: roughly 1.1 m²
  • Case width 154 cm, depth 66 cm
  • Access: Lift needed

260 kg is near the top of what an upright weighs. Staircases get quoted only after we see the access. The case is 66 cm deep, which is more than most. Measure the doorway rather than assuming it will turn.

What You Are Actually Buying

Every Kawai we sell has been through a full restoration in Japan and a second rebuild in Selangor. The second one matters most, because by then the piano has been through a humidity change we can actually see the effects of.

Humidity decides how a piano ages here. These were built for a climate with a winter, and in Malaysia the soundboard takes up moisture and gives it back, week after week. That movement pulls a piano out of tune, not playing it.

Kawai's professional line, and the heaviest uprights they built for homes and institutions. Long strings and weights that need planning.

Questions

Kawai US-50: What People Ask

How big is the Kawai US-50?

132 cm tall, 154 cm wide, 66 cm deep, and about 260 kg. Height sets the tone, weight sets what delivery day looks like.

Will a US-50 fit my place?

You need about 1.6 m of wall and roughly 1.1 m². 260 kg is near the top of what an upright weighs. Staircases get quoted only after we see the access. Tell us the building and we will tell you whether this one can get in.

Is a used US-50 a safe buy?

Every Kawai we sell has been through a full restoration in Japan and a second rebuild in Selangor. The second one matters most, because by then the piano has been through a humidity change we can actually see the effects of. Five years of parts and labour cover comes with it, from the same people who rebuilt it.

Can I rent a US-50 instead?

Rent-to-own runs on a separate pool that changes weekly, so we cannot promise a US-50 specifically. Ask what is free now. The rent turns into credit the moment you decide to buy it.

Do you have a US-50 in stock?

Ask, because it changes week to week. When we are out, we say so rather than steer you into whatever is on the floor.

How often does a US-50 need tuning in Malaysia?

Twice a year. Humidity decides how a piano ages here. These were built for a climate with a winter, and in Malaysia the soundboard takes up moisture and gives it back, week after week. That movement pulls a piano out of tune, not playing it. Two tunings after delivery are included when you buy from us.
