What The UX-1 Sounds Like

It sounds like a piano rather than a small piano, which is not true of everything in this height class. Same case as the Yamaha UX10B1, 6 kg lighter.

Set against the Yamaha U1H, the most commonly sold used Yamaha here, it is 2 kg heavier. Middling for weight in a range that spans 180 kg to 254 kg.

Yamaha is the brighter and quicker of the two, which is why exam candidates keep asking for one. Some players find the treble tiring over long sessions. There is no right answer here. Both are on the floor, so try them back to back.

Ours are rebuilt twice before you see them, once in Japan and again in our own workshop here, and the second pass happens after the instrument has crossed the equator and shown us how it reacts to this climate.

Tune it twice a year. Not because it gets played hard, but because the soundboard moves with the weather and takes the tuning with it.
