What The U1F Sounds Like

Bright, responsive and small in the bass. The U1 voice suits practice more than performance: it tells you clearly what your fingers did, which is exactly what a student needs and occasionally more honesty than an adult wants.

By the F the U1 had settled into the form it kept for years. The differences between it and its neighbours are detail changes rather than redesigns.

Yamaha is the brighter and quicker of the two, which is why exam candidates keep asking for one. Some players find the treble tiring over long sessions. There is no right answer here. Both are on the floor, so try them back to back.
